How To Maintain Your Hot Tub

Posted on

After spending a small fortune on a hot tub, you definitely want to keep it in good condition for as long as possible. If you've never owned a hot tub before, you may find the idea of having to maintain one somewhat overwhelming. Fortunately, maintaining a hot tub is actually rather simple. Here are a few tips that will help you properly maintain your hot tub.

Vinyl Protector

Outdoor elements can have a very adverse effect on the life and appearance of your hot tub. Therefore, to protect your hot tub from exposure to the elements, you should use a vinyl protector. You will have to clean the protector on a regular basis with vinyl cleaner. When cleaning the vinyl protector, ensure that you use the cleaner only on top of the actual cover. If the cleaner's chemicals get into the hot tub, it may damage it and affect the chemistry of the water. Instead of using vinyl cleaner for the underside of the cover, you should use a garden hose. You can dry the hot tub cover by letting it air-dry on a warm or sunny day.

Wipe Down the Surface

Fortunately, the acrylic shells of a hot tub are typically non-porous. Therefore, you won't have to worry about dirt or bacteria getting embedded within the acrylic shell. Due to this non-porous surface, hot tubs are usually rather easy to clean and difficult to become dirty in the first place. However, since your hot tub will be sitting outdoors, it can get dusty and muddy. Therefore, every once in a while, you should use a damp cloth to wipe the shell down. This will keep your hot tub looking just as nice as the very first day you purchased it.

Change the Water

To maintain your hot tub, you should change the water on a regular basis. Ideally, you should change the water at least four times a year. If you use your hot tub very frequently, you should change the water more often. On the other hand, if you use your hot tub sparingly, you can change it just three or even two times a year. Of course, you should consider the appearance of the water in the hot tub to determine when you need to perform a water change.
